Miami Dolphins Draft Scenarios

Written by

As fans and analysts have continued to make their own mock drafts, teams across the league have also been playing out possible scenarios that could occur over the next few days. Every pick has an associated effect on the next and so planning out many possibilities is used to try and lessen the surprise. Here, I lay out 7 possibilities for the Dolphins using several different philosophies and approaches to what could come of a most unpredictable process.

Day Three and UDFA Targets

Written by

The third day of the draft may not be full of the big names or have instant impact players, but it is where teams churn over of their roster with specialists, developmental and teams players. All of whom will make huge impacts on the 53 man roster come game-day. We have taken a look at some prospects likely to be drafted in the third day, or go undrafted, that the Dolphins have shown interest in. We look at what they offer short term and long term and how they fit the final roster.

Despite being the leading rusher in Conference USA, the first time an Owl has achieved this since 1997, Rice University running back Charles Ross seems to be flying under the radar this draft season. A bruising back with enough speed and quickness to make an immediate impact as a rookie in the NFL, Ross has a 4th round grade in my book. Check on past the break for the full scouting report and interview with Ross.

To further break down our rankings, we bring you our top 100 draft prospects for the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins have 3 selections in the top 100 and it’s more than likely that prospects on this list will fall through the 116th pick of round 4. Hopefully this list gives you an idea of whom we see as the player with the highest-grade available at a given point in the draft. Of course our board likely differs greatly from the Dolphins official board as we can only evaluate off publicly available data including tape and workout numbers.

We conclude our google hang-out preview of the upcoming draft by looking at the defensive prospects live on the May 4th at 12 noon EST, which can also be viewed below our top 100 list.

Every franchise front office has many eyes scouring over every prospect as opinions are gathered from everyone who is organizationally involved in scouting. This includes scouts at several levels, coaches, and the general manager. Realistically, attempting to approximate a team’s draft board from the outside looking in is inaccurate by definition.  However, it doesn’t mean we won’t give it our best shot.  In an attempt to create a similar draft board to the one that the Miami Dolphins might have, Ian Wharton and I have combined our own grades based on Miami’s scheme fits and preferences to create a horizontal draft board.

This process aims to highlight some of the potential draft picks for the Miami Dolphins, while also displaying the complexities of arranging many opinions. Even with just two sets of eyes and preferences there can be considerable distance between evaluations. This does not mean that either is wrong or right, but opens a conversation about prospect traits as they project forward into the NFL.

Pre-Draft Rookie Visits

Written by

From the time the NFL Combine closes until Draft day, NFL teams are accorded the right to host a potential draftee at their facility. The ground rules are simple:

  1. There is no limit to how many potential draftees a team may interview.
  2. The team, however, is only allowed to arrange transport for 30 prospects.
  3. Local players are allowed to be timed, tested, interviewed and administered written tests.
  4. Transported prospects cannot be timed nor physically tested, but can be interviewed and administered written tests.

Along with these visits, teams have scouts and coaches across the country to interview prospects and attend prodays. Read on below to see which prospects the Miami Dolphins have shown interest in.
