The third day of the draft may not be full of the big names or have instant impact players, but it is where teams churn over of their roster with specialists, developmental and teams players. All of whom will make huge impacts on the 53 man roster come game-day. We have taken a look at some prospects likely to be drafted in the third day, or go undrafted, that the Dolphins have shown interest in. We look at what they offer short term and long term and how they fit the final roster.

Eric Pinkins – SAF

Height: 6026                        225 Lb. Bench Reps: 25
Weight: 220                         Vertical Jump: 39 1/2
40 Yrd Dash: 4.44                Broad Jump: 10'06"
20 Yrd Dash: 2.63                20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.31
10 Yrd Dash: 1.59
                3-Cone Drill: 7.02

Eric Pinkins is a  raw, long and athletic safety prospect. A two year starter from San Diego State, Pinkins offers what many look for in 3rd day/UDFA pick ups: Versatility. He projects to multiple roles at Safety, having played in off-man coverage vs wide receivers and tight ends in the slot and outside. He flips his hips open with ease, which makes up for his poor positioning at times. He is very willing to play the run and was used on blitz packages where his athleticism is highlighted. I would not expect Pinkins to see a full time role at Safety in the near future, but if you’re looking for a project it’s hard to find better physical and athletic tools, particularly in a weak Safety class all the way down.

Sammy Seamster - CB

Height: 6004                            225 Lb. Bench Reps: 15
Weight: 200                             Vertical Jump: 35
40 Yrd Dash: 4.42                   Broad Jump: 10'04"
20 Yrd Dash: 2.60                   20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.27
10 Yrd Dash: 1.57                   3-Cone Drill: 6.86

Sammy Seamster is a spot starter out of  Middle Tennessee St, Seamster likely offers the Dolphins special teams value more than anything, with his down hill speed and good size. Seamster has experience at all the positions in the secondary, but does not excel in any. I would like him to be more eager vs the run, as it seems he often holds onto blocks to avoid making the hit. Seamster’s size and speed combination suite him to press-bail play that Dolphins occasionally utilize. This would also help hide some poor reactions, that often his raw athleticism can not make up for. Bottom line on Seamster is your getting a special teams player that in the biggest of pinch’s you have a versatile DB.

Walt Aikens – CB

Height: 6005                            225 Lb. Bench Reps: 13
Weight: 203                             Vertical Jump: 35
40 Yrd Dash: 4.49                   Broad Jump: 09'10"
20 Yrd Dash: 2.66                   20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.42
10 Yrd Dash: 1.59                   3-Cone Drill: 7.12

Walt Aikens is a corner out of Liberty with good size for and press skills. He will be likely converted by other teams more than Miami as a pure CB as he lacks lower body explosion and flexibility making him not ideally for Off-man and Zone concept’s Miami principally use. Aikens would be the most physical CB on roster if he were to be picked by the Dolphins. He likes to attack the run and has the experience as a "Gunner" on special teams, which may be his biggest value for the Dolphins as that is a current need in the special teams corp.

Terence Fede -DE

Height: 6032                            225 Lb. Bench Reps: 25
Weight: 276                             Vertical Jump: 33
40 Yrd Dash: 4.76                   Broad Jump: 09'11"
20 Yrd Dash: 2.72                   20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.45
10 Yrd Dash: 1.62                   3-Cone Drill: 7.13

Terence Fede is a physical freak edge rusher from Marist. Edge rush is not the highest priority, but it never hurts to stock up with raw athletes to get at the quarterback. Fede has a rare combination of size and speed. Scoring very similar numbers to the CB Aikens above in the broad jump, 10 yard spilt, 20 yard shuttle and 3 cone; doing so with an additional 70 lbs. and 3 inches on his frame. Fede has a good eye for the ball and can locate and dissect plays well with good instincts. He often is in the backfield, with multiple moves to get there. Has a great first step, but does have a tendency to stand up straight allowing his blockers to have a large target to get a hold of. With Miami's wealth of knowledge in their D-line room It would be a perfect environment to develop Fede, to become a more than serviceable edge rusher. He has all the tools to be an impact player, it may just take some time. The Dolphins may have some extra intel on Fede with recent WR addition Michael Rios also having played at Marist.

Garrett Scott  - OT

Height: 6044                             225 Lb. Bench Reps: 25
Weight: 307                              Vertical Jump: 33 1/2
40 Yrd Dash: 5.05                    Broad Jump: 09'07"
20 Yrd Dash: 2.93                    20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.40
10 Yrd Dash: 1.64                    3-Cone Drill: 7.09

Garrett Scott played LT for Marshall last year, with experience at LG. He tests off the charts athletically and passes the threshold size for an NFL offensive tackle. In fact, his measurables and testing bear an uncanny resemblance to that of Joe Staley. Scott is a very intriguing prospect with great lateral agility and quick feet. He lacks somewhat in punch and hand use, but has shown flashes of a dominate player, in both the passing and running game. Scott is a personal favorite of mine, with all the raw tools I covert with excellent lower body flexion and knee bend. I believe in 5 years time he will be a starting Left tackle in the league and a very good one at that.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif  - OT

Height: 6050                             225 Lb. Bench Reps: 33
Weight: 298                              Vertical Jump: 32 1/2
40 Yrd Dash: 5.08                    Broad Jump: 09'06"
10 Yrd Dash: 1.72                    3-Cone Drill: 7.30

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif has become somewhat of a cult figure being called the Greg Robinson of Canada after having an impressive pro day, albeit less impressive than Scott’s. The McGill offensive tackle first played defensive tackle before being moved over the line of scrimmage, so he has very little experience. Coaches and scouts may see this as a positive; seeing a raw piece of clay they can mold with little ingrained habits. Duvernay-Tardif is far more physical player than Scott and dominated his competition in Canada. He will likely be an early day 3 selection and is low risk, high reward potential. His development will be an intriguing one and he projects to be an average starting right tackle.

Oscar Hazell

Oscar Hazell was born in raised in London having been introduced to American football aged nine by a neighbour from Boston. This was during the terminal years of The London Monarchs of NFL Europe, where I got the chance to play both flag football and have never looked back since. Naturally my neighbour was a Patriots fan, I was very confident at the time (1997) that I would be on the winning side more often than not by supporting the Miami Dolphins. The rest is history, I’m sorry if I was at all to blame. The limited acess to the game in the UK made my fasination for it even stronger and elements such as the play design and the draft have fasinated me. I have been evaluating draft classes since 2011 and have a soft spot for flexion.
